The Maslon law firm offers summer associates an opportunity that is becoming increasingly rare in today's legal world: the excitement, variety and challenge of a sophisticated law practice in the informal and collegial atmosphere of a mid-size firm. Just as our firm is unique, we believe our summer program offers a very different experience from other law firm summer programs. We focus on the individual needs of each summer associate, provide meaningful projects on sophisticated client matters, and build in enough flexibility to meet a variety of interests. We combine structure with flexibility to enable summer associates to work in as many practice areas as they desire. Each summer associate develops a personal summer plan designed to meet the summer associate's particular interests. As part of our program, summer associates attend Monday information lunches, where a senior member of the firm is invited to discuss a specific practice area of the firm, describe the type of work performed and clients served, and answer questions. Through this program, our summer associates have an opportunity to connect with senior lawyers in an intimate, informal setting. By the end of the summer, our summer associates will have received an in-depth overview of each area of the firm. We make sure our summer associates receive individual attention. Each summer associate is welcomed by two mentor attorneys, whose job is to provide the "inside scoop" on Maslon, as well as offering guidance and advice throughout the summer. If you enter our summer associate program, you will be working with the most experienced lawyers at our firm on a variety of assignments tailored to your specific interests. You will be doing research, of course, but you will also have the chance to observe client conferences, closings, negotiations, trials, hearings and depositions. In addition, you will be assigned a writing mentor who, will provide you with one-on-one guidance in the intricacies of legal writing. Our social activities are frequent, but do not take over your personal time. You will have opportunities to socialize informally with Maslon attorneys at lunch, outside the office, and at structured firm social events and outings. Our summer program is our most effective means of hiring new associates. The program includes a comprehensive, three-pronged approach including: (1) work assignments; (2) training programs; and (3) social activities, to give summer associates as much exposure as possible to "real life" at Maslon. Summer associates also have the opportunity to work on pro bono matters. It is our hope that our summer associates become new Maslon associates. Our Summer Associate program is designed to give us a chance to observe you in a working environment, and it is the best way for you to evaluate us, too. |
